Singapore - the Lion City in the Southeast Asian region
Singapore is an island and city state and the smallest country in Southeast Asia. Nevertheless, Singapore has a lot to offer! Whether Little India, Chinatown, temples, gourmet hotspots or great shopping opportunities: You will be thrilled by the many facets of the city!
It is estimated that more than six million people live in Singapore today. The many facets of Singapore are also reflected in the population structure. In the island state, about 74 percent of the citizens are of Chinese descent, 13 percent come from Malaysia and about nine percent originally come from India.
Due to the diversity of the different ethnic groups, Singapore has woven itself into a colorful tapestry of cultures. The name Singapore comes from Sanskrit - which describes the different varieties of ancient Indian - and is composed of the terms Singha (= lion) and Pura (= city). So Singapore literally means "lion city"!
And a mighty "roar" pierces the city streets every year when the Singapore Grand Prix is held in the city-state. On the five-kilometer Marina Bay Street Circuit, the Formula 1 bolides race along the harbor and the city center - a spectacular experience for visitors from all over the world!
